The Winners of the 7th Asian Control Conference Awards

Shimemura Young Author Prize:

Abhijit Kallapur

for the paper:

"A Robust Gyroless Attitude Estimation System for a Small Fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle" co-authored with Ian Petersen and Screenatha Anavatti

Best Paper Prize:

"Distributed Consensus of Multi-Agent Systems with Finite- Level Quantization’’ authored by Tao Li, Minyue Fu, Lihua Xie and Jifeng Zhang

The 2009 Asian Control Conference will award three distinguished prizes:

  1. Best Paper Prize (US$500), which will be presented by the General Chair in the name of General Chair.
  2. Best Application Paper Prize (US$500), which will be presented by the Program Chair in the name of Program Chair.
  3. The Shimemura Young Author Prize (US$500, first author, under 35 years old, i.e., born on or after 1 January 1974), which will be presented by Prof. Shimemura (if he is available) in the name of the President; or by the ACA President otherwise.

The three awards will be evaluated together by the same Award Evaluation Committee, which is composed of five members:

Co-Chairs:

G Ron Chen (City University of Hong Kong)
Jie Huang (Hong Kong Chinese University)

Members:

Jie Chen (University of California at Riverside)
Daizhan Cheng (Chinese Academy of Science)
Xiao-Fan Wang (Shanghai Jiao Tong University)

Members at Large:

      Shinji Hara (University of Tokyo)
Frank Lewis (University of Texas at Arlington)

The suggested procedure is as follows:

  1. The corresponding author of any accepted paper needs to submit an application to ASCC09 Secretariat at ascc09@ust.hk by June 15, 2009.  The submission should indicate which prize he/she is applying for, and the applicant of the Shimemura Young Author Prize should state explicitly that the age of the first author is under 35.
  2. A specially designed Review Form will be given to 3-5 reviewers of each candidate paper to fill out, with more technical comments than usual, for the Award Evaluation Committee to evaluate. The Committee will recommend the Program Chair to accept or reject a candidate paper by the conference.
  3. The Award Evaluation Committee will select 5 papers from among those papers accepted by the conference as candidate papers for the Award.
  4. All the Award Evaluation Committee members will attend the candidate authors’ oral presentations during the conference, and give independent marks on a specially designed score sheet.
  5. Before the closing of the conference, the Award Evaluation Committee will hold a meeting to select the best one from among the 5 candidate papers to be the winner for each prize.
